Check a property's history

Every registered sale since 1995, the tenure on record, the council tax band and the energy assessments carried out — pulled together for one address.

What property history is public in England & Wales

More is public than most people expect. HM Land Registry publishes every residential sale price since 1995, including the date, tenure and whether the home was a new build. The Valuation Office Agency publishes the council tax band for every dwelling. The EPC register holds each energy assessment carried out since 2008, with the assessor’s notes on walls, roof, heating and glazing.

What is not free

Named owners, the title plan and any restrictions or charges sit on the title register, which HM Land Registry sells for a small fee per title. Anything before 1995, and private matters like mortgages or disputes, are not in the open data.

Our full report adds flood risk, listed status, planning applications, crime, schools, broadband and neighbourhood statistics for the same address.
